Erickson | Sederstrom's Litigation Division is comprised of Nebraska and Iowa trial attorneys who represent clients in civil lawsuits involving matters ranging from personal injury claims to complex commercial contract claims. Our clients include Fortune 100 and 500 Companies, local, national and international businesses, municipalities, as well as individuals reluctantly drawn into in the litigation process.
With experienced attorneys in Lincoln and Omaha, Erickson | Sederstrom's Litigation Division provides effective, accurate advice and representation specifically tailored to our clients’ needs. With an average of more than 22 years of experience in the practice of law, Erickson | Sederstrom's Litigation Division is managed by seasoned veterans of our judicial system, whether involving civil litigation in the state or federal courts in Nebraska, Iowa or elsewhere. And because Erickson | Sederstrom belongs to various networks of member firms across the country and around the world, we can see that our clients’ interests are protected in a variety of regions outside of the Midwest and beyond.
Division members are experienced in handling personal injury lawsuits involving motor vehicle negligence, premises negligence and products liability claims, including representation of both insured and self-insured defendants. Members of the Division also offer expertise and experience in workers' compensation claims and in complex corporate and commercial litigation areas, which often require scientific and technological expertise.

Jessica Boone
Jessica has been a member of Erickson|Sederstrom’s Litigation Division since joining the firm in 2011. Jessica’s litigation practice is focused on civil litigation, including commercial, insurance defense, and workers’ compensation.

John Brownrigg
John has been a member of the firm since 1980, focusing his practice in the civil litigation area, including personal injury, products liability, construction, insurance, commercial, and real estate litigation, and he chaired the firm’s Litigation Department from 1985 to 2002. He has handled jury and non-jury trials in the county courts, federal and state district courts, and federal bankruptcy courts, as well as appeals before the Nebraska Court of Appeals, the Supreme Court of Nebraska, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. From 1978 to 1983, John served as an adjunct professor in Trial Practice at Creighton University School of Law. John began providing mediation and arbitration services in 1995, and those alternative dispute resolution services remain a significant part of his practice.

Andrew Collins
Andrew’s litigation practice focuses on complex litigation for commercial and insurance clients. Andrew has successfully prosecuted and defended causes of action for all types and sizes of clients. He is also familiar with and proficient in obtaining resolution by way of all manners of alternative dispute resolution, including negotiations, facilitated negotiations, mediations, and arbitrations, among others. Andrew is licensed to practice and has litigated cases in the States of Nebraska and Iowa.

Thomas J. Culhane
Tom Culhane graduated summa cum laude from Creighton University School of Law and is a senior partner with Erickson | Sederstrom’s litigation practice group. He is admitted to practice in the state courts of both Nebraska and Iowa as well as the federal court in Nebraska and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Following graduation from Creighton and prior to joining the Erickson | Sederstrom team in 1975, he clerked for the Honorable Donald P. Lay of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Mr. Culhane has a general litigation practice with emphasis in recent years in commercial litigation. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.

Richard J. Gilloon
Mr. Gilloon is a member of the firm’s Litigation practice group. He is a member of the bars of Nebraska and Colorado, and has tried cases in Nebraska, Iowa, Colorado and New Mexico. Areas of practice include representing the firm’s clients in contract and business disputes, property damage and personal injury cases, construction cases, administrative law, probate and estate disputes, and insurance defense.

Thomas J. Guilfoyle
For approximately 35 years, Mr. Guilfoyle‘s practice has primarily involved the defense of professionals, including architects, engineers and accountants. He is employed as panel counsel by a number of insurance companies that defend professionals.
Mr. Guilfoyle has represented a number of architectural and engineering firms throughout Nebraska and in the State of South Dakota and Iowa. He has been involved in a number of cases that established new law benefiting design professionals in the State of Nebraska.

Jerald L. Rauterkus
Jerry is a senior member of the Erickson | Sederstrom litigation department and a 1985 graduate from Creighton Law School; while at Creighton, Jerry was also a member of the Law Review. He is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in Nebraska; additionally, he is admitted to practice in the State of Colorado. Jerry’s practice area includes multi-party litigation for nonprofits, product liability, transportation litigation, and workers’ compensation. He is on the Board of Directors of Erickson | Sederstrom.

Matt Reilly graduated with distinction from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 2009, and is an Associate in Erickson | Sederstrom’s litigation department. He is admitted to practice in both state and federal courts in the State of Nebraska. Mr. Reilly practices extensively in litigation with a focus in Workers’ Compensation and Insurance Defense. With the firm, Mr. Reilly has handled a variety of cases ranging from state administrative courts to federal courts.

Tiernan T. Siems
Tiernan presently heads the litigation section and is licensed in both Iowa and Nebraska. He has appeared on behalf of his clients before most state and federal courts in both of these states, as well as before numerous administrative bodies. With clients representing manufacturing, construction, service and other industries, Tiernan has come to learn what’s important in keeping clients focused on their operations, rather than being held up in the litigation process. Tiernan is a senior partner at Erickson | Sederstrom and has been practicing since 1997.
